LOS ANGELES – MTV European Music Awards (MTV EMA) 2016 akhirnya merilis daftar lengkap nominasi mereka pada Selasa, 27 September 2016. Meski merupakan ajang penghargaan untuk mengapresiasi musisi-musisi Eropa, namun tak sedikit penyanyi-penyanyi Hollywood yang juga terdaftar sebagai nomine di MTV EMA 2016.
Nama-nama populer seperti Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Adele, atau Coldplay meramaikan daftar persaingan untuk menjadi yang terbaik di MTV EMA 2016. Beyonce dan Justin menjadi yang terbanyak dinominasikan di lima kategori, sementara Adele membuntuti dengan empat nominasi.
Berbeda dengan Video Music Awards di Hollywood, MTV EMA juga mengapresiasi musisi lokal yang namanya belum terlalu dikenal dunia. Pemenang kategori-kategori untuk penyanyi lokal seperti Jerman, Swis, Polandia, dan Israel didasarkan pada voting online netizen di negara bersangkutan.
